Before we get to their Rare Bird Proposal story, I wanted to tell you a little bit about Nathanael & Jackie. They “officially” met sophomore year of college in architecture school at the University of Kentucky . I loved their perspectives of when they met & fell in love, so I wanted to share both sides of their stories!
Nathanael: I actually saw her for the first time freshman year, I walked out of my studio to take a break and she was in the hallway pinning up for a presentation. I was across the hall and I couldn’t really even see her but something about her just caught my attention. I was very shy and quiet so I never made the attempt to talk to her but I still thought about her that whole year.
Jackie: Sophomore year he was in my best friends studio. One night I came to talk to my best friend after I had a hard week, and it was one of those times when I needed to vent and cry. Nathanael was there, it was the first time I had really noticed him. He saw me crying and talked to me for the first time and helped me feel better. We talked some that semester. The next semester we found out we were in the same studio, and after some late nights, long conversations, ice cream dates, and movie nights we started dating!
Nathanael: As we started dating, we spent so many weekends together and one thing we always loved doing was baking. She is an excellent baker and I love sweets so it was really perfect haha. There was one night we were getting cupcakes out of the oven and they looked great and they smelt great so I was excited and just said “I love you” which caught me off guard cause we hadn’t said that yet to each other. I overcorrected and said “I meant I love baking with you” but I think it was really my heart saying what my mind hadn’t quite comprehended yet.
Jackie: One night we had been writing a paper, working on homework and a project for a few hours. Nathanael was having a hard time, and he was tired so he wanted to take a break and lay down, so I went upstairs with him. I think that was one of the first times I had seen him so down and frustrated. Even though it wasn’t one of those romantic moments, I just knew and felt I wanted to be with him through all the good and the bad. I knew I wanted to be the person to comfort him at times like that. That was also the first time I said “I love you” in that moment I just wanted him to know how much he meant to me.
The Proposal
March 6th was a very special day for Nathanael & Jackie. Nathanael had it all planned out. Jackie’s best friend Lexington & her boyfriend Ryan were in town to celebrate her birthday! They had a nice dinner planned at Giovanni. But before they wanted to go see the Nashville skyline & have a cocktail at the incredible Rare Bird. I met Gina who works for Rare Bird before where Nathanael has a corner of the rooftop reserved for them!
The four of them arrived to the Noelle & made their way up to the rooftop. The sun had just set so they took turns taking photos Ryan & Lexington first, then Nathanael & Jackie. Little did Jackie know, when it was her turn to have her photo taken Nathanael would be asking her the biggest question of here life. Jackie was blow away & of course said YES! Forever couldn’t start soon enough for the two of them. They celebrated with some bubbly, then made their way to dinner! A last little surprise limo to take them there, and waiting at dinner was their great friends & cousin Kristen & Cameron. The sweetest little cherry on top, that Jackie always hoped for when they got engaged.
Nathanael & Jackie are so excited to start planning their wedding & starting a life together. They are looking forward to officially being Husband & Wife, starting a family & building their dream home together. Knowing they are getting to spend the rest of their lives together makes this season of life so exciting!!
Helping plan proposals & photograph them is always so much fun. Nathanael & Jackie, it was such an honor to be apart of your Rare Bird Proposal & I am so excited about the next year of planning with you.
